University of Sheffield
The Sheffield Economics Society is the largest, most prestigious, and only official society for the University of Sheffield Department of Economics. We are here for all students of the department. Initiated and led by students from the University of Sheffield, the society attracts more than 200 high-achieving students each year with a keen interest in the financial industry. We are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and are fuelled by a passion for the beauty of theory of Economics. We play an active role in organising academic and social events for Economics students, oversee student representation and provide various other opportunities to those who wish to get more involved with their department. More than just an academic society, we also strive to form a sense of belonging and identity with the department and our peers. Entering our 15th year, our society continues to be a global platform for prominent industry leaders to confer with exceptional students. Our flagship themes are: Mergers & Acquisitions, Sales & Trading, Asset Management, and this year, a new focus on Private Equity.
The Sheffield Economics Society 2020 aims to bring students a series of distinguished speakers to share our interest in the constantly evolving world of economics and how it interacts with the worlds of politics, technology, current affairs and global issues. Sponsors and Partners will have access to this exclusive talent network through society involvement - in the form of leading debates, panels, and keynote addresses. Our recruitment facilities include recruitment booths during networking teas, in-house networking event opportunities, and extended access to the resumes of select students. A further goal of the society is to improve the relationship between alumni and current students. It is clearly of key interest to students to find out what University of Sheffield Economics graduates are doing with their lives five, ten or even twenty years down the line. We seek to open up more avenues for communication between the two groups through our alumni events. Of course, being a student is also about meeting new people, trying new things and generally having a great time. Economics students (contrary to popular belief!) are no exception to this. We are the only society on campus that can put on events exclusively for Economics students and we see this as a vital step to creating a more relaxed community feel in the department. For brand recognition, Sheffield Economics Society 2020’s advertising/promotion features new expansion into online platforms and improved international marketing. Alongside the distribution of merchandise onsite, online marketing will include the launch of monthly newsletters featuring sponsored content, and a wide-reaching Sheffield Economics Society mailing list.
