African Caribbean Society
University of Manchester
As a committee, we are looking to use the coming academic year as an opportunity to incite change in the wider community by hosting more events that centre much needed discussions regarding mental health in the black community, forging links with other universities and raising money for charities that centre the advancement of the black community – a demographic that is largely underrepresented in higher education. Our ACS is known as a hub and a safe haven for African and Caribbean students at the University of Manchester, who are often marginalised on a societal level by virtue of their lived experience. Due to this, we would like to provide opportunities for some of the most promising minds at our university across as many career paths as possible – from journalism to medicine – as such opportunities bring about the improvement that we strive so hard for.
