RUMS Boat Club
University College London
We are the boat club of UCL medical students known as RUMSBC.
We are the largest sports club of the medical school union within UCL and pride ourselves on being a mixed club of all abilities spanning the 6 years of our degree. The club has been running in its current form since 1998 but dates back to 1865 when it was formed under a different name.
In that time we have won multiple United Hospital titles, head races, BUCS events and sprint races and have been the UH Champions consistently each year since its creation 4 years ago. We are very proud of our achievements and the success of our members; some of whom have gone on to be Henley Royal Regatta winners and World Champions in this discipline.
There are however many expenses connected with running a boat club including hiring the boathouse, race entry and coaching. Although we receive a small proportion of our funding through UCL, we also have to rely a lot on our own self-fundraising and sponsorship efforts to raise enough to sustain us. We always want to maintain the premise that the boat club is available and affordable to everyone and so gives people the opportunity to try a sport that would otherwise be out of reach to most people.
