Lyell Geoscience Society
Royal Holloway and Bedford New College
The Lyell Geoscience Society (formerly 'New Lyell') was established in 1987 and provides an academic and social focus for students and staff at Royal Holloway university, particularly those within the Department of Earth Sciences. The society is organised by a committee of students who co-ordinate a series of guest lectures and social events throughout the year.
Our main event, known as Lyell Day, is a day-long symposium where leading earth scientists are invited to present their research around a particular theme (e.g. 'The Impacts of Geology on Life & Evolution') which is concluded with a formal, black-tie dinner and dance.
