Queen Mary Snowsports
Queen Mary and Westfield College
Queen Mary Snow Sports (QMSS) is a student-led non-profit snow sports club at Queen Mary University of London. We have an annual membership of around 120+ students, making us one of the biggest sport clubs at our university. Our primary focus is to make snow sports, and the intrinsically linked social aspect, more accessible to a wider group of people. We pride ourselves in being a diverse club with members of all nationalities and from a range of backgrounds.
We regularly host different socials such as curry nights, house parties and pre-drinks every month before our university’s sports night. Along with other London Universities, we organised a Launch Party in the beginning of the year so trip-goers and dedicated snow sports members from all over London could meet up before our big trip in December. Every year we arrange trips to Scotland, for the British University Dryslope Championship, and to the French Alps in December. This year we are also looking into the possibility of organising another trip during Easter.
Our club is formed of a ski race team, a board team and social members, each having a separate goal which relates back to our central aim of inclusion. Our skiers are regularly entered in competitions such as the Dryslope Championships, Kings and the Indoor Dome Series. Our club includes students who have raced for years and students whose first-time skiing was with us. Our mixed board team mainly competes indoors, where they have been very successful. In 2018, the team won the Southern Qualifying round, and came 2nd in Nationals. We host weekly training sessions on both dry-slope and indoors, for beginners, racers and freestylers.
