KCL Womxn in Physics Society
King's College London
Womxn now make up half the national workforce, earn more college and graduate degrees than men, and by some estimates represent the largest single economic force in the world. Yet the gender gap in science persists, to a greater degree than in other professions, particularly in high end, math-intensive fields such as physics. Our main purpose is to build a strong close-knit community within the department, for support, mentorship and progress.
Much has developed over the past two years, we’ve become an official KCLSU ratified society, hosted two successful Women in Physics London Conferences, and run workshops to build a sense of community in the department. We’ve run even bigger events this year, with our greatly anticipated monthly quiz nights to our Coffee, Cake and Self-Care socials. We’ve also co-hosted the Learn LaTeX workshops, with a turnout of over 255 attendees. We’ve founded the KCL WiP Parenting Scheme, allowing students to mentor freshers. And we’re continuing the legacy to put on the third Womxn In Physics London Conference.
